This day tour is an unforgettable experience, taking you along Jesus’s path during the days he preached his gospel around the Galilee region in the north of Israel.
We begin this exciting day in Nazareth, home of Jesus’s parents and where Jesus grew up, and the site of the Church of Annunciation. Nazareth is also where you can find the Middle East’s largest Christmas tree if you are fortunate enough to visit the Holy Land during Christmas time. The vibrant life of the town of Nazareth is well experienced by walking the streets and visiting the bustling marketplace.
Leaving Nazareth behind, we head eastwards to the Galilee Sea, where Jesus worked to spread his gospel and performed many miracles. Capernaum, which is believed to have been the townhome of Peter, will be our next stop. At the siete, a large and beautiful modern church is built over the archaeological remains of Peter’s home. Nearby there are also the remains of an ancient synagogue where Jesus is believed to have taught his followers.
We continue following Jesus’s path and we head up to the church on The Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus is believed to have delivered the Sermon on the Mount. The church is a beautiful Franciscan chapel, built as an octagonal, the eight sides representing the eight Beatitudes. The view from the mountain and the church itself is a breathtaking panoramic view of the Galilee Sea and the green hills of the Galilee. After the visit here, we head back down the mountain and visit Tabgha, the famous church that commemorates the miracle of feeding the disciples with loaves and fish.
We proceed southwards with a scenic drive around the western shore of the Galilee Sea and after lunch at a local restaurant, we drive to the site of the Yardenit, a baptism site on the shore of the Jordan River. Here you can head into the water and be rebaptized or just enjoy a nice swim, taking in the atmosphere and the fact that this is the same river that John baptized Jesus in. We end the tour with some delicious local dates and jams from the nearby Kibbutz.
