Tel Aviv is a trendy, hip city, buzzing with energy all year round. Tel Aviv is the city that never stops, never sleeps, innovative and always has something exciting to offer every person who visits. Known in the history books as Israel’s first Hebrew City, it was established in 1909 by Jews as a modern housing estate on the outskirts of the ancient port city of Jaffa. Several other Jewish neighborhoods built outside of Jaffas’ walls, such as Neve Tzedek, eventually became part of Tel Aviv city.
We begin our day first with a tour of Old Jaffa as it is the route to understanding how Tel Aviv later evolved. While Tel Aviv followed the path to modernity, Old Jaffa kept a more nostalgic ambiance. Today, Old Jaffa is where Tel Avivans head out for an occasional romantic break. The Flea Market, boutique art galleries, and Old Jaffa Port offer a special atmosphere that allows you to sail away with your thoughts. However, the port itself is now only a relic of its importance throughout history. In ancient days it was the main port where Christian pilgrims, Zionist pioneers, courageous and adventurous travelers, and settlers set foot on the Holy Land for the first time, ready to discover everything the land had to offer.
Leaving Jaffa behind, we will proceed to visit Neve Tzedek, the first Jewish neighborhood to be established outside the protective walls of the Old City of Jaffa in the late 19th century. Today, this is a trendy neighborhood packed with restaurants, shops, and art galleries.
After lunch, we will head into the heart of Tel Aviv. We will first tour around the bustling Carmel open market which is a very colorful, tasty and exciting experience. We will end our day after a stroll along Rothschild Boulevard. This long street is famous for the interesting architecture seen on both sides of the street, most notably the Bauhaus style buildings which gave the city its nickname – the “White City”. The city was also recognized by UNESCO as a heritage site due to the large amount of Bauhaus style buildings found around the city.
A single day tour around the city may seem to be a hard task to handle but with Aizen Travel, we promise you will enjoy the city’s highlights and will leave you a taste for more to see on your next visit!
